Former Carlton and Brisbane spearhead Brendan Fevola is making his way back to East Gippsland next month for another game with the Lindenow Football and Netball Club.
Last year, Fevola kicked fifteen goals and was denied a sixteenth milliseconds after the full-time siren had sounded as he led Lindenow to a big victory against Wy Yung.
Remarkably, he only kicked one behind in seventeen shots on goal.
This year he will take the field for the Cats in their round seven clash against Lucknow which is being held at Bairnsdale City Oval on the Sunday of the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend (June 7).
Lindenow Football Director Chris Daffey said the decision to bring Fevola back was made last year after a club assessment showed how successful the 2014 event had been.
“There’s no doubt that last year’s event was truly groundbreaking for East Gippsland football and netball,” Daffey said.
“It was the first time that a modern-day player as decorated as Brendan had come to the region to play in our local league and it created a grand final like atmosphere at Lindenow with around 1800 people attending the event.
“His on-field performance well and truly exceeded our expectations and he was fantastic with fans of all ages off the field.
“Our organisers were so happy with how everything went and with Brendan indicating his willingness to come back for another game, we locked him in for the same long weekend this year.
“We also decided early on to change the playing venue from Lindenow to Bairnsdale City Oval in order to make it easier for people living in and around Bairnsdale to attend and enjoy the day.
“There’s been a few hiccups along the way but we’ve been fortunate the have the patience and understanding of the Lucknow Football Netball Club throughout.
“We now have our fingers crossed for some good weather, a big crowd, and a great day of both football and netball.”
Mr Daffey said there would be further event announcements and details to come over the next three weeks in the lead-up to the event, with a post-game night function already booked in at the Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Centre.
“There’s still more to come. Last year we had Campbell Brown, Liam Pickering, Mike Brady, as well as some local football talent on a footy show type panel. This year we will again have some big name special guests during the day and night."
