Lucknow’s own Callum Chambers, a former Carlton teammate of Brendan Fevola, will square off against the former Coleman Medalist when Lindenow play the Magpies at Bairnsdale City Oval on Sunday, June 7.
Chambers, who previously returned to play a one-off game for his home club in 2013, has been called into the Lucknow side after word spread that he would be back in town for the long-weekend.
Orignally taken by West Coast at pick 13 in the 1997 AFL National Draft, Chambers played 12 games for the Blues between 2005 and 2006 after being traded following 54 games with the Eagles.
Like Fevola, he was a member of Carlton’s 2005 pre-season premiership side.
Lindenow Football and Netball Club spokesperson Chris Daffey said the addition of Chambers to the Lucknow side had come out of the blue but would add a lot of extra interest in the game.
He said having two former AFL players who were also teammates lining up on opposing sides would be great for the crowd.
“Obviously having Brendan Fevola playing is a big drawcard but when you throw in a former teammate, who is also recognised as a Lucknow man through and through, then it adds even more excitement to the game,” said Daffey.
“Callum is a great player and athlete who set records when he first went to Carlton.
“He’s a year older than Brendan, but even at 35 years of age he has the ability to turn the game on its head from the middle of the ground.
“While Lucknow will be looking for ways to control Brendan, our players are definitely going to have their hands full controlling Callum.
“While they probably won’t be opposed to one another on-field, I’m sure both Brendan and Callum will be looking forward to catching up, as well as having a bit of friendly banter about who will take home the spoils.”
Tickets are still on sale for the pre-match and post-match functions which will also feature ex-Richmond hard man Jake King, local boxing maestro Will Tomlinson, former AFL coach Mark Riley and X-Factor grand finalist Andrew Wishart.
The pre-match luncheon is being held in the City Oval Social Rooms from 12:30pm with tickets at $80 and available from Jo Hurley on 0400 675 795.
Tickets to the Sportsman’s Night are $30 and available directly though the venue (Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Centre) on 5152 5242.
