More than $1700 will be donated towards breast cancer research after a hugely successful Pink Day was held at the Lindenow Football and Netball Club.

Over 50 local ladies attended the event which included a high-tea, live music, beauty therapy, raffles and a silent auction.

Local identity Wendy McPhan, who last week was among thousands of women on the Melbourne Cricket Ground for the 2015 Field Of Women before the Melbourne Demons played the Sydney Swans, was the event’s special guest speaker.

The club has run a Pink Day event for a number of years in recognition of the number of families within the Lindenow and East Gippsland communities that have been affected by breast cancer.

This year’s event was very well supported by local businesses including La Flame Essence Soy Candles; Gary J Photography; Headlines; Bairnsdale Cinemas; Ryder and Raven; Telstra Bairnsdale; I Do Massage; Jemma Louise Cakes; David Pollard Photography; House and Gift; Sandbar Surf; and Rojae Hairdressing.

The club intends to continue fundraising to help fight a disease which statistics estimate affects around 15,600 Australian women and 145 Australian men every year.

The final takings from this year’s event well and truly exceeded expectations and the club has already set an ambitious fundraising target of $2000 for 2016.
