Andrew Wishart, the East Gippslander who came from nowhere to finish runner-up in the third season of Channel 7 reality show X-Factor, is the final addition to the exciting sporting showcase being presented by the Lindenow Football and Netball Club this Sunday, June 7.
Despite being based in Melbourne, Wishart has remained a regular visitor to his hometowns of Bruthen and Bairnsdale and has performed a number of gigs in the area since his brush with fame in 2011.
Previously a territory sales manager for vending machine company Cupa Nutz, Wishart is now embarking on a new album after releasing ‘It’s Never Too Late’ in 2012.
Wishart said he is excited to be performing for the crowd this Sunday both before and after the game.
“East Gippsland has been very supportive of me over the years and it’s great to be able to get back to see old friends and make new ones,” said Wishart.
“I’m really looking forward to my gig this Sunday which will include hosting Lindenow’s prematch VIP Luncheon and Sportsman’s Night, as well as singing the National Anthem prior to the match at City Oval which I’ve never done before.
“Hosting an event is a bit of a new challenge for me, which I am really excited about. Guests can expect a relaxed, happy and really interactive day and night and hopefully they can have a laugh, ask plenty of questions and learn a little bit more about Fev, Jake King, Will Tomlinson and Mark Riley.”
Wishart said he was keeping very busy and would hopefully be releasing the new album that he is currently working on soon.
“I am continuing to work on original songs and funding for my new CD and I’m also booked to play festivals all over Australia from Corryong to Clare and Esperance,” said Wishart. Lindenow Football and Netball Club spokesperson Chris Daffey said having Wishart on-board meant there would be a wide range of entertainment on offer this Sunday, not just a game of football.
“Andrew is a great local talent who always takes the chance to get home and perform for the community when opportunities arise so we’re pleased to have him on-board,” said Daffey.
“As well as the music he provides, there will be a jumping castle and face painting for kids, our netball competition will be running as per normal, so there really is something for everyone on the day.
“With a reasonable weather forecast for Sunday it’s going to be a big day for both clubs and we are hopeful of a big turnout.”
The pre-match VIP luncheon is being held in the City Oval Social Rooms from 12:30pm with tickets at $80 and available from Jo Hurley on 0400 675 795 or at the door.
Tickets to the Sportsman’s Night are $30 and available directly though the venue (Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Centre) on 5152 5242 or at the door.
