In another first for East Gippsland football, veteran AFL Grand Final performer Mike Brady will provide pre-match entertainment when Lindenow play Wy Yung in Round 7.
Brady is famous for his Australian Rules anthems including ‘Up There Cazaly’ and ‘One Day In September’, and he also helped Greg Champion write and produce ’That’s What I Like About Football’.
The addition of Brady comes a fortnight after Lindenow announced the marquee signing of Brendan Fevola for the game, which is being played on Sunday, June 8.
Brady, who is used to performing in front of 100,000 fans, said he hopes to bring some of the MCG magic to Lindenow for the day.
“I love country football because it’s the grassroots of our wonderful game,” Brady said.
“There may not be crowds in the tens of thousands but every Saturday it’s a social event for people in small communities to come together and enjoy our great game.
“I’m really pleased to be a part of this match, which will be huge for East Gippsland. Fev is sure to provide plenty of on-field entertainment and hopefully I can handle the show off-field.”
Lindenow football director and event manager, David Dunkley, said that since the signing of Fevola, the club had pushed hard to further develop an event for the whole community.
“This event has been a long time in the making,” Dunkley said.
“Since we got Brendan on-board, we’ve received support from a number of sponsors and are rapt to have a legendary AFL entertainer involved.
“In addition to events during the day, both Brendan and Mike will be two of the key attractions at a Sportsman’s Night after the game at the Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Centre.
“This event stretches well beyond the Lindenow community. We want to attract a large crowd from right across Victoria to showcase local football and East Gippsland.”
Dunkley said more announcements regarding the game and Sportsman’s Night will be made in coming weeks.
